Congratulations to Dr. Bob Messing for being awarded The Civitatis Award!

The Civitatis Award is conferred upon one or two members of the faculty each year in recognition of dedicated and meritorious service to the University above and beyond the regular expectations of teaching, research, and service. Recipients  are deemed to be a person of such integrity, stature, demonstrated ability and renown that the university community, including alumni, faculty, staff and students, will take pride in and be inspired by his or her recognition.

In the award letter, President Jay Hartzell noted that:

"Whether working in administrative roles or conducting research, your expertise has ensured not only your success, but the accomplishments of your colleagues. The service you provide has been imperative to the establishment, growth, and achievements of Dell Medical School. Recent advances at the Institute of Neuroscience and Nanotechnology continue to benefit the medical school as well the entire UT System.

Your work to find safe, non-opioid alternatives to treat chronic pain, and research to investigate alcohol addiction on a molecular level are perfect examples of the kind of innovation that starts here and will change the world.

Congratulations, Bob, on this recognition of your outstanding achievements and your extraordinary contributions to The University of Texas at Austin. I am very proud of everything you have done--and continue to do--for our University."

Well done Bob!
