Double bassist Mark Bernat trained at the Juilliard School and has led an active career as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player. Bernat established Musical Memories and is Director of the Red River Ensemble that performs at Dell Seton Medical Center.
Violinist David Bernat leads a multifacetedcareer as a performer, educator and artistic director. Bernat received his bachelor’s degree from the New England Conservatory and master’s degree from the Juilliard School.
Pianist Jiarong Li is based in New York City and is a Collaborative Piano Fellow at the Yale School of Music. She is pursuing her doctorate in collaborative piano with an assistantship at Manhattan School of Music

The Mariachi Paredes de Tejastitlán
The University of Texas Mariachi, known as the The Mariachi Paredes de Tejastitlán, was founded in 1977. It was named in honor of Dr. Américo Paredes (1916-99), a seminal figure in the history of border studies, Mexican American studies and the post-modern movement in anthropology. The Mariaci are directed by Greg Cavazos Assistant Professor of Practice in Music and Human Learning at the UT Butler School of Music.

Nicole Parker (Cellist): Nicole Parker is a cellist and student of music at the University of Texas at Austin, where she performs with the UT Symphony Orchestra and studies a wide range of solo and chamber repertoire. She has appeared in performances at Bates Recital Hall and attended the Rocky Ridge Music Festival in Colorado. Nicole enjoys collaborating in chamber music settings, especially with her string quartet, and is passionate about sharing music with new audiences.
Reese Chen (Violist): Ying-Chen Reese Chen is a Taiwanese violist currently pursuing her Master of Music degree at the University of Texas at Austin, where she studies with John Largess of the Miró Quartet. She has performed as a substitute viola with Taipei Symphony Orchestra and Taiwan Philharmonic Orchestra (NSO). Her festival appearances include Aspen Music Festival and School, Seiji Ozawa Academy (Japan), Kirishima International Music Festival (Japan), Asian Youth Orchestra (Hong Kong), and Great Mountains Music Festival and School (Korea).
Misa Stanton (1st violin): Misa Stanton is from Colorado and a junior at the University of Texas at Austin, studying with Sandy Yamamoto. She began her violin studies at the age of three, and her previous teachers include James Maurer, Jacqueline Maurer, and Christine Rewoliski. Misa made her solo debut in 2013 with the Littleton Symphony Orchestra. Since then, she has soloed with the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs, the Lakewood Symphony Orchestra, the Broomfield Symphony Orchestra, and the Colorado Young Sinfonia. She has performed as the concertmaster of the University of Texas Symphony Orchestra, and as a chamber musician, she has been featured on Colorado Public Radio Classical. In recent summers, she has attended music festivals including the Sarasota Music Festival, Encore Chamber Music Institute's Quartet Intensive and Summer Academy, and Madeline Island Chamber Music. Aside from violin, she enjoys skiing, playing strategy board games, and trying new restaurants.
Wai Shan (Yvonne) Ma (2nd violin): Wai Shan (Yvonne) Ma, a Hong Kong born violinist, is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Texas at Austin under the guidance of Sandy Yamamoto. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Oberlin Conservatory and her Master’s degree from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. She has won numerous prizes, including First Prize in the New York International Young Musician Competition, and is a laureate of competitions across the U.S., Hong Kong, and China. Her festival appearances include Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, Meadowmount School of music, and Bowdoin Music Festival. Ma currently holds the position of Section Violinist with the Central Texas Orchestra and the Austin Opera Orchestra and performs regularly with the Austin Symphony.
The Canelé String Quartet
Zichuan (Kevin) Wang (violin) is a Doctor of Musical Arts student and violin teaching assistant at the University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music. He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Originally from Wuhan, China, Kevin began studying violin at age four. He trained for 14 years with Mingjian Liu, joining the Wuhan Chamber Orchestra in 2012 as assistant concertmaster. Since 2016, he has studied with renowned violinists including Ivan Zenaty, William Preucil, Stephen Rose, and Brian Lewis. Kevin has earned top prizes in competitions such as the CCTV Young Artists Competition and the New York Summer Music Festival Concerto Competition. In 2025, he won the Texas Rising Stars Concerto Competition and performed with the Austin Civic Orchestra. He has also attended the Aspen Music Festival and other international events.
Summer Bradshaw (violin) is from Nashville, Tennessee and is completing her senior year at the University of Texas at Austin, where she studies under violinist Brian Lewis. During her time at UT, she has served as concertmaster of the UT Symphony and UT Opera productions. She previously studied for ten years in the pre-college music program at Vanderbilt University, and has also studied with Lisa Shihoten at Rice University. Outside of playing violin, Summer enjoys swimming, reading, and eating cookies.
Yusong Zhao (violin) is pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Texas at Austin on a full scholarship. He earned his master’s degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music and his bachelor’s degree from the Hartt School, University of Hartford. In 2025, he joined DFestival in Quanzhou, China, as a string faculty member and violinist of the resident Daedalus Quartet. Zhao has appeared at major international festivals, including the Pacific Music Festival in Japan, where he served as concertmaster under Thomas Dausgaard and collaborated with violinist Mayumi Kanagawa, and a European tour with the National Youth Orchestra of China. He is a prizewinner of the Hartt Chamber Music Competition, the Paranov Concerto Competition, and the BSOM Concerto Competition, performing concertos by Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich. An active orchestral musician, he has performed with the Canton Symphony Orchestra and the Akron Symphony Orchestra.
Yilin (Selina) Xu (cello) is a master student majoring in Music Performance at the University of Texas at Austin, where she studies with cellist Bion Tsang. Born in Shanghai/China, Xu started playing the cello at the age of 5. She then continued to pursue music abroad in the U.S since age 14 and joined the Florida Youth Symphony Orchestra during her high school years. In 2018, Xu received the second-price from the Florida Keys International Music Competition and was invited to perform at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall. She also has appeared in many summer music festivals such as the Internationaux d’Orchestra de Jeunes, the Summa Cum Laude Festival, National Youth Orchestra of China, and Miami Music Festival. Aside from solo, Xu loves to play chamber music with friends and to collaborate with musicians from all over the world.

Chelsea de Souza - Concert pianist
Indian pianist Chelsea de Souza is a Steinway Young Artist internationally acclaimed for her dynamic artistry and thought-provoking recital programming. A captivating performer with “an alluring stage presence” (The Hindu), the four-time All-India Piano Competition winner brings together a diverse range of musical influences from Western and Indian classical to jazz in her versatile, genre-defying artistry. Recent highlights include the world premiere of “Do You Remember”, a new piano concerto by Nicky Sohn with Houston’s new music collective Loop38; a live improvisation recital-experiment with the UH IUCRC BRAIN Center; and an artist residency on the Performance Today Rhone Valley cruise with American Public Media host Fred Child.
Chelsea is the co-founder and Artistic Director of the Houston Music Festival, which reimagines chamber music through interdisciplinary collaborations. She has performed at La Jolla Summerfest and Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival, for the DACAMERA Chamber Music and Jazz Series in Houston, and with award-winning groups Alarm Will Sound and ROCO. Her recital project The Silk Road: Musical Exchange between East and West—praised on tour across the U.S. and India—intertwines performance and storytelling to illuminate cultural identity and migration.
Chelsea is currently Mitchell Center Scholar in Residence at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music, teaching classes in improvisation and music of the Indian diaspora, and curating interdisciplinary performances.

Gao Hong Chinese Pipa
Gao Hong, a master of the pear-shaped lute, the pipa, began her career as a professional musician at age 12. She graduated from China’s premier music school, the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, where she studied with the great pipa master Lin Shicheng. In China and the US Gao has received numerous top awards and honors including becoming the first musician in any genre to win five McKnight Artist Fellowships for Performing Musicians. In 2018 Gao became the first Chinese musician to win a Sally Award from the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts. Gao has performed throughout Europe, Australia, Argentina, Japan, Hong Kong, China and the US in solo concerts and with symphony orchestras, jazz musicians and musicians from other cultures. Her performances have included those at the Lincoln Center Festival, Carnegie Hall, the San Francisco Jazz Festival, the International Festival of Perth, Australia and the Festival de Teatro d’Europa in Milan, Italy.
Since moving to the United States in the mid-1990s, Gao Hong has earned a reputation as a tireless and enthusiastic educator. She founded the Hua Yin Children’s Chinese Music Ensemble in the basement of her home. Soon the Ensemble found a new home at the MacPhail Center for the Arts in Minneapolis. She has taught at MacPhail Center for the Arts and Metropolitan State University in Minnesota and has appeared as a guest lecturer at numerous colleges and universities throughout the country. In 2016, Gao Hong completed the first pipa method book ever written in English and had it published by Hal Leonard. She is currently teaching Chinese music instruments and directing a Chinese Music Ensemble at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. She is Guest Professor at the Central Conservatory of Music, China Conservatory of Music, Tianjin Conservatory of Music and Hebei Vocational Arts College. She is a member of the Board of Directors at the American Composers Forum and Minnesota Citizens for the Arts. Gao Hong is also a founding member of the professional Chinese music ensembles The Spirit of Nature and The Beijing Trio.

Claire Chiang - Concert Pianist
Claire Chiang, an avid soloist and chamber musician, has performed internationally and in the United States as a frequent prize winner of solo and concerto competitions. She is currently completing her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with Anton Nel at the Butler School of Music, where she has been nominated by the school for the 2026 Presser Undergraduate Scholar Award.
She began learning the piano at age four in Plano, TX, and has since garnered many awards around the country. Her most recent concerto performance was with the UT Symphony Orchestra as the first undergraduate student in more than a decade to win the Butler School of Music Piano Concerto Competition. Other honors include performing with the Lewisville Lake Symphony, Plano Symphony Orchestra, and Coeur d’Alene Symphony, as well as performing the opening concert at the Centennial Celebration of the China Foundation for the Promotion of Education and Culture in Taiwan (established by President Coolidge in 1924).
In addition to pursuing her music studies, Claire recently graduated in May 2025 from UT Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience with Highest Honors. She is also actively involved in teaching both piano and science, conducting neuroscience research, and performing in community outreach concerts. After graduating with her two degrees, she will attend medical school in the fall.
