Drs. Adron Harris and Dayne Mayfield renew NIAAA grant

Drs. Adron Harris and Dayne Mayfield received a competitive renewal from NIAAA for their long-standing project (since 1999) titled "Gene Expression in the human alcoholic brain." This research project investigates the theory that alcohol-induced changes in brain function are due to alterations in gene expression. Alcohol-induced changes in gene expression will be explored with next generation sequencing and strategies to identify potential alcohol treatment options will be studied using repurposed FDA approved drugs. This work could potentially provide new opportunities for gene-based diagnosis and treatment of alcohol dependence.
