Qualifying Exam
For specific details regarding the qualifying exam please refer to the neuroscience graduate program handbook.
At the end of the second year students must pass a qualifying examination.
For the qualifying exam the student must independently generate an NIH style
research proposal on a neuroscience topic of choice. The student must
then orally present and successfully defend the proposal to the qualifying
exam committee. The goal of the exam is to ensure that the student has acquired
a strong, basic understanding of neuroscience, has gained the ability to develop
and write a research proposal, and can demonstrate mastery of the methodological
and conceptual basis of the proposed project.
