What do you want to discover

I want to discover the cellular mechanisms of temporal lobe epilepsy.

epileptiform activity recordings
Recordings of epileptiform activity from a
CA1 pyramidal neuron in the hippocampus.

Epilepsy is characterized by highly synchronized firing patterns among a large population of neurons. These “seizures” can be very disruptive to the patient and result in cognitive problems. Temporal lobe epilepsy is very common and particularly difficult to control medically. The synchronized firing patterns result from a “hyper-excitable” state of the neurons. Our goal is to understand the mechanisms for this hyper-excitability and to provide new targets for pharmaceutical intervention.
